EARLY SETTLER PASSES ON
James Alfred Graves Dies at Vancouver Following Brief Illness.
James Alfred Graves, 88, one of the early settlers of Oregon, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Klink, in Vancouver, Wash., Saturday, following a brief illness caused by his advanced age. Private funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock this morning from the Finley chapel, and interment will be in the Salem Cemetery.
Mr. Graves was born in Gallipolis, O., in 1830, came to Oregon 66 years ago and located at Corvallis, where he lived for a number of years, later moving to Salem. He was active in Odd Fellows’ circles of those places. Besides his widow, Mr. Graves is survived by five daughters: Mrs. M. Whealdon, Portland; Mrs. Myra Galagher [Gallagher], Yaquina; Mrs. Mary McClaire, San Francisco; Miss Olive Graves, Hillsdale; Mrs. Dorothy Klink, Vancouver, and by two brothers, Wesley and William Graves, of Salem.
