W. J. Barker, 92
Son of Pioneers
William James Barker, 92, thought to be the oldest native son of Salem, died Wednesday in Portland. He was born at Salem on August 19, 1848, son of William and Aurelia Ann Barker, natives of Massachusetts, who crossed the plains to Oregon in 1847.
Mr. Barker's father was a cabinet maker and established a furniture factory in Salem on the present site of the Marion hotel.
He is survived by one son, Harry L. Barker and a nephew, O. B. Coldwell, both of Portland.
Funeral services will be held at Salem Saturday at 2 P.M. and burial will be in the Barker family plot.
