The remains of Fred Doty, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Doty, of this city, who was fatally injured in a railroad accident near Pocatello, Idaho, Saturday, November 1, will be brought to this city for burial on the 4:27 Southern Pacific train this afternoon. The funeral will be held from the Rigdon & Richardson chapel Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. E. G. Hornshuch, pastor of the Evangelical Association church, on Seventeenth and Chemeketa streets. The interment will take place in the Odd Fellows’ cemetery.
Young Doty was well known in Salem, where he lived with his parents since he was a child. He visited his parents here several months ago, after which he left for Pocatello, where he was working on one of the trains running out of that city. When the telegram arrived in Salem the day of the accident, Mr. and Mrs. Doty left immediately, and were at the bedside of their son when one of his limbs was amputated just above the knee, at a Salt Lake City hospital. For a time hope was entertained for his recovery, but poison in the wound and internal injuries caused his death on Monday morning, November 10.
Besides his parents, the deceased leaves two sisters and one brother, Elva, and Hallie, of Salem, and Lee Doty, who is working in Eastern Oregon, and whom relatives are trying to locate.
Mr. Doty, father of the deceased, has been employed for several years at the W. S. Fitts fish and poultry market on Court street.
