OBITUARY:
At Salem, Saturday, March 31, 1894, Wayne, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Jefferson aged 5 years and 7 months. The little one had been ill about six weeks, his first illness being an attach of la grippe, which affected his heart. For three weeks he had been near deathÂ’s door. Whenever he would go to sleep his heart would cease beating, and in order that organ might remain in action it was necessary to keep constant watch over him. He had to be turned from side to side every minute.
A few days ago he developed a throat trouble, and yesterday afternoon was taken to the office of Dr. J.A. Richardson, where, in consultation with Dr. Gillis, an examination was made of his throat, and it was in the course of this examination that death came to him. While attempting to examine his throat he was considerable excited and struggled not a little, which in his weakened condition was no doubt the cause of his heart failure. All ordinary means of restoration were applied without results.
The funeral will take place at the residence of R.A. Crossan, 372 Winter street at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be at Rural cemetery.
