OBITUARY: 

Edna E. Newberry, 70, former longtime resident of Salem, died Tuesday at her home in Des Moines, Wash.

Miss Newberry was born in Arkansas and moved here when she was young. She attended school here and worked as a bookkeeper for C. M. Roberts Grocery and then for the State Labor Commission before moving to Wenatchee, Wash., about 35 years ago. There she was a bookkeeper and secretary to the superintendent of Deaconess Hospital before retiring and moving to Des Moines two years ago. While in Salem, Miss Newberry was active in First Methodist Church.

Survivors include sisters Mrs. Gladys Youngblood and Mrs. Helen Bradley, Salem, and brother Arlie Newberry, Sacramento, Calif.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Pioneer Cemetery. Rev. Henry L. Haines officiating, under direction of Virgil T. Golden mortuary.
