J. H. Nickerson, 67, Dies.
Was Confined to Hospital Since 1922. 
James H. Nickerson, 67, died Sunday at Salem Memorial hospital where he had been confined with arthritis since 1922. Death followed a serious illness of six weeks. Nickerson was a member of IOOF lodge, attending the annual homecomings at Salem lodge in a wheel chair for many years after he was hospitalized. He joined Samaritan lodge, Portland, in 1905. Members of both lodges took an interest in his welfare during his long confinement. 
Born in Franklin, Pa., Apr. 20, 1882, Nickerson moved to Portland at the turn of the century. He was a Spanish American war veteran. Before moving to Salem in 1912 Nickerson was a teamster and an cub reporter for the Portland Oregonian. He came here as a teamster for the city and later farmed in this area before he was stricken. During World War I he was a secret reporter for federal agents. Nickerson married Ella Hoffman at Yamhill. 
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ethel Snyder of Canby, Thelma Winona and Sarah Nickerson, all of Portland; and a sister, Mrs. R. C. Williamson of Millville, N.J. Services will be announced later by Howell-Edwards chapel.
