He was an Oregon jurist, legislator and farmer. Waldo was born in the Waldo Hills, Marion County. He graduated from Willamette University, 1866, and in 1870 was admitted to the bar, practicing at Salem. A Republican, he was elected a supreme court judge for the Oregon Supreme Court, 1880, serving four years. In 1889 he served in the Oregon legislature. With his brother William, and John Minto he explored and named many features of the Cascades". OBITUARY:  ANOTHER OF OREGON'S BEST MEN GARNERED BY THE GRIM REAPER Judge John B. Waldo Passes Quietly Away in his Country Retreat Most Promising Career Interrupted in Early Stage by Distressing Illness After a protracted illness, Judge John B. Waldo, jurist, statesman and one of the most prominent Grange workers in the state, passed peacfully away at his farm home in the Waldo Hills, at 5 o'clock last evening of a complication of ailments, aged 63 years, 11 months and 27 days. Funeral services will be held at Macleay Grange Hall, Wednesday, September 4, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. P. S. Knight, and interment will had in Odd Fellow's cemetery at 1 o'clock in the afternoon of the same day.  John Breckenredge Waldo, son of the late Daniel Waldo, was born upon the old homestead in the Waldo Hills, October 6, 1844. He graduated from Willamette University in 1863, and was admitted to the bar in 1870. He was elected Justice of the supreme court in 1880, but retired from the bench in 1886 on account of asthma, and has since lived a quiet country life. He served one term in the state legislature in 1889 and was instrumental in having the Cascade forest reserve set aside, comprising over 4,000,000 acres of timber land.  He was married in Portland, October 8, 1877 to Miss Clara Humason, of The Dalles, and but one child was born to this union, Edith H. Waldo. The widow and child survive him. He is also survived by one brother, William Waldo, of this city, and Mrs. Mary P. Logan, of Seattle, a sister.  Oregon Statesman, Sept. 3, 1907; 1:1.
