Ewald D. Franz March 19, 1914 - July 19, 1988.
KEIZER--Ewald D. Franz, 74, died Tuesday in Keizer.  He was born in Inverness, Mont.  He was a longtime Salem-Keizer area resident.  He graduated from Salem High School in 1932 and from Willamette University in 1937.  He was an Army veteran of World War II.  After the war, he was co-owner of Coomler and Franz Hardware store, Keizer.  He worked for  the State of Oregon as executive assistant for the Board of Parole and Probation from 1951 until retiring in 1976.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Elks, both in Salem.  He married Evelyn Melson on May 24, 1940, in Salem.  Survivors include his wife; daughter, Genese Mullin of Otter Rock; sons, Stanley M. and Allan of Salem; and brothers, Rufus M. of Eugene, Arthur J. of Lincoln City, and Dr. Landy J. of Salem.  Visiting will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in Barrick mortuary, Salem.. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday in the church.  Interment in Pioneer Cemetery, Salem, will follow a church reception.  Contributions may be made to the Oregon Health Science Center for cancer research in care of the mortuary.

Ewald D. Franz, 74, died July 19 in Keizer.
He was born March 19, 1914, in Invernesss, Mont. He had lived in the Keizer area for many years, graduating from South Salem Hiigh School in 1932 and Willamette University in 1937. He served with the Army during World War II, and after the war, he was co-owner of Coomler and Franz Hardware and Grocery Store. He was executive assistant for the Oregon Board of Parole and Probation from 1951 until his retirement in 1976.
He married Evelyn Melson on May 24, 1940 in Salem, Oregon.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Genese Mullin of Otter Rock; two sons, Stanley M. of Albany and Allan of Salem; three brothers, Rufus M. of Eugene, Arthur J. of Lincoln City and Dr. Landy J. of Salem, and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held last Friday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Pioneer Cemetery, Salem. Barrick mortuary, Salem, was in charge of arrangements.
Contributions may be made to the Oregon Health Science Center for Cancer Research.
