Death of Isaac Leabo, a Pioneer of Oregon

T. M. Leabo, of this city, is in reciept of the sad news of the death of his father, Isaac Leabo, at his late home in Lorena, Lincoln county, Washington, Saturday, May 13th. Mr. Leabo was a pioneer of Oregon and lived in Salem until about a year abo, when he went to reside with a daughter at the above place.

He was born in Indiana on November 13, 1815, and was married to Miss Mary Lewis, of Ohio, in 1836. Twelve children were bon to them, nine of whom, besides his aged spouse, survive him. One son, N. J. lives at Corvallis; and another J. J., at Mill City; Mrs. U C. Weiser, at College Park, Santa Clara county, Cal.; Mrs. Steen and Mrs. McLuscky at Toledo, Or.; Joseph at Seattle; Mrs. Phar, at Lorena, Washington, and Thomas M., in this city.

The deceased crossed the plains with his wife and four little children in 1846, first settling on French Prairie, and he was the first white man that ever navigated the Willamette river from Eugene to Salem. At on etime, Mr. Leabo was very wealthy, owning considerable property in and around Salem. He was a man of very temperate habits and was excedingly liberal in his views and opinions, enjoying the friendship and respect of his whole acquaintanceship.

Mr. Leabo was for many years a member of the Christian church, but a few years ago he untied himself with the Seventh Day Adventists and remained a consistent memnber of that faith until the cold hand of death descended with its undeniable demand. He was a zealous Christian and it can be truthfully said that the subject of this sketch had not an enemy in the world and that he was always more ready to give than to recieve and found more pleasure in that mode of existence.

His last illness cam through a stroke of paralysis and he only survived the attack a few hours, his great age making his power of resistance slight, as he would have been 84 years old his next birthday.
