Corpse of Suicide is Now Identified

The decomposed body of an unknown man which was found in the Willamette river near Sidney Sunday has been positively identified by the county coroner as that of Peter Bunetta, an Austrian, who is thought to be about 50 years old. The man’s identification was made possible Tuesday when his suitcase was found on the river bank near Buena Vista, the contents of which proved that the body was that of Bunetta. Photographs of the man and his family were found in the suitcase. Officers believe that Bunetta committed suicide by jumping into the river from the Polk county side, the location of his hand bak [bag?] offering a clue to this belief. Efforts are being made to communicate with relatives or friends of the man while the remains are being held in the mortuary.

Burial services will be held today for Peter Bunetta, whose body was found late last month in the Willamette river near Sidney, with Rigdon’s mortuary in charge, interment will be in the IOOF cemetery.
