OBITUARY: 

Richard J. Campbell--Private graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Salem Pioneer Cemetery for Richard James Campbell, 60, a long-time Salem resident who died in the city jail early Saturday. Virgil T. Golden mortuary is in charge. Cause of death was listed as a heart attack. Campbell was sentenced to five days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a vagrancy charge. Police said they found him sleeping in a garage in the 700 block of Cottage Street NE last Wednesday. His only survivor, an aunt, Miss Emma Godfrey, Salem, a member of a pioneer Willamette Valley family, reported that Campbell had been boarding in Salem and theorized that Campbell had a loss of memory Tuesday or Wednesday and was too embarrassed to report his circumstances when discovered by police in the garage. A native of Portland, Campbell reportedly lived for many years in Salem and Martines, California returning here a [sic] for many years in Salem and Martines [sic] school bus driver and Navy veteran of World War II.
