DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
At his residence, near Salem, on Tuesday, March 22d, 1870, Pelatiah Chappel, in the 56th year of his age.
Deceased was born in New York State from whence he removed to Oregon in 1855. His only relative on this coast was a sister--Mrs. M. Myers, late of Salem, and now a resident of Santa Clara, California.
He united himself with the Baptist Church of this place at its organization, which was soon after his arrival here, and to the hour of his death led a most devoted and exemplary Christian life.
Having been seriously injured on the 9th inst., by being crushed by a log, he lingered in great pain until last Saturday, when he felt much easier. Recognizing the symptoms of approaching dissolution, he bade his friends farewell and gave the most cheering assurances of a firm faith in a glorious immortality. He expired yesterday morning in perfect peace.
The funeral services will be preached this morning at 10½ o’clock, by the Rev. T. M. Martin, at the Baptist Church.
