OBITUARY:
EARLY PIONEER OF STATE DIES AT 81; MRS. T. E. ABRAMS RESIDENT HERE MOST OF HER LIFE; FUNERAL SATURDAY
Mrs. T. E. Abrams, early Oregon pioneer, died at her home yesterday, at 81 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at Rigdon's Mortuary at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Dr. J. E. Milligan conducting. Burial will be in the family plot in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.
Mrs. Abrams was born September 20, 1855 on the donation land claim of her father, Joshua Witten, on what is now Division street between 82nd and 40th streets in Portland, Oregon. Her father crossed the plains in '48. When she was eight years old, her folks traded their land claim for a grist mill on the banks of the Willamette Slough at Salem, and later moved to Lincoln where they built a grist mill and sawmill, which were landmarks in Polk county until razed in recent years.
Mrs. Abrams attended Willamette university and taught school until her marriage to Louis Abrams, pioneer merchant and warehouseman of Lincoln, who had crossed the plains with an ox team in '49.
In 1910 Mrs. Abrams again moved to Salem, where she made her home with her son, Carle Abrams, until her death, except for a few years at Roseburg and Eugene where she kept house for her daughter.
She was a life long Methodist. Her father was a Methodist minister and two of her uncles, George and John Roork, also Methodist ministers, were instrumental in erecting the present First Methodist church in Salem. She was a sister of Mrs. J. D. Lee of Salem
Mrs. Abrams is survived by two daughters, Letitia Abrams of Salem, and Lois Abrams Green of New York City, and a son, Carle Abrams, of Salem.
