OBITUARY: 
Steve Cooper Drowned - Steve Cooper, a well-known local character, was drowned in the Willamette River last Monday, by stepping from a ferry boar near Independence. Mr. Cooper was returning to his work in J. R. Cooper's hop yard on the Marion county side of the river, after attending business matters in Independence, and was said to be intoxicated. Coroner Clough was notified of the unfortunate man' death, and brought the body to this city, where it will be buried at the county's expense.
