1880 CENSUS shows Wm. Anderson, age 50, b. Ill, in the Saloon Bisiness, wife A. L. Anderson, age 32 b. Missouri and two daughters b. in Oregon, Nellie age 12 and Minnie age 9.

Court & Front FROM ANDERSON'S FRIENDS -- A Card in His Behalf from Those Who Were Present -- To Whom It May Concern: Inasmuch as we learn that certain untruthful reports have been circulated against Mr. W. R. Anderson, proprietor of Elk Head saloon, in the city of Salem, we, the undersigned, take pleasure in stating that we were present at Mr. Anderson's place of business on Thanksgiving day, November 30, 1893; that he entertained his visitors with free lunch, consisting of several roast turkeys, spareibs, crackers, pig's feet, and egg nog; that we partoook of his generaous hospitality, which we found to be good in every respect, both as to food and drink, and everything was served free of charge by Mr. Anderson on that day as has been his custom on Thanksgiving days for the past several years. We deem it only proper that we should make this statement in justice to Mr. Anderson, in order to correct any untruthful reports which may have be circulated against him: M. H. Craik, J. W. Gay, S. OBITUARY: 
W. R. ANDERSON PASSES BEYOND
Came to Oregon in 1853 and Had Lived in Salem for 56 Years With the passing of William Robert Anderson yesterday morning at 8:45 o’clock at the Anderson home on Court street, Salem lost another of its early residents. He came to Oregon in 1853, crossing the plains by ox team with William England, who died in Salem some years ago. Mr. Anderson was 87 years old. 
He was born at Springfield, Ill., January 1, 1831. He was married 56 years ago to Amanda Hamilton, and the couple have lived at the old home, 219 Court street, continuously since. Mr. Anderson was a charter member of the local Odd Fellows lodge. 
Besides his widow, three daughters and a son are left. They are Mrs. E. G. White, Mrs. Don Vollmar and William Everett Anderson of Salem, and Mrs. Otto Schell of Bremerton, Washington. He is also survived by a brother, George W. Anderson, who lives at Gates, Oregon. The Odd Fellows lodge will be in charge of the funeral, which will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 oÂ’clock from the Webb & Clough chapel. Burial will be in the family lot in City View cemetery.
