OBITUARY:
PIONEER WOMAN BURIED YESTERDAY; LARGE GATHERING OF FRIENDS ATTEND THE FUNERAL OF MRS. CROISAN
At 3 o'clock last Sunday morning, Mrs. Mary Ann Croisan, one of the most prominent pioneer women of the state, died at her home 226 South High street, this city. Mrs. Croisan was 82 years of age at the time of her death and for more than sixty-six years was a resident of Marion county.
Mrs. Croisan, who was born at Princeton, Illinois, was the daughter of R. B. Hall, an Oregon pioneer who settled on the site of the town now known as Buena Vista, giving it its name. While she was crossing the plains with her father in 1846, Miss Hall met Henry Croisan, to whom she was later married. They settled on a land claim three miles southwest of this city in 1846. Mrs. Croisan was the mother of six children, of whom five are now living. They are: Mattie E. Wilson of Princeton, Ill.; E. M. Croisan, Clara E. Farmer, G. C. Croisan and Caroline Bushnell, all of this city. One daughter, Henrietta Croisan, is dead. The funeral was held in the I.O.O.F. cemetery yesterday, Rev. R. N. Avison of the M. E. church, of which Mrs. Croisan was a member, officiating. A large retinue of friends escorted the casket to the grave. The pallbearers were Clyde O. Rice. Judge Bushey, J. W. Roland, J. H. Albert, N. J. Haas and W. S. Lowe.
