OBITUARY: VETERAN ELK PASSES AWAY.
Robert Crossan, Former Salem Treasurer, Succumbs at Hospital.
Robert A. Crossan died yesterday at 8:30 a.m. at a local hospital. "Bob" Crossan was an old resident of Salem. He crossed the plains in 1866 and had lived in this vicinity ever since. He came to Oregon after having served through the Civil War, in the Union army. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and a life member of the Salem lodge of Elks. Mr. Crossan served Salem as city treasurer for five years.
In every walk of life he was faithful and honest. He was a loyal friend and a high minded gentleman. He was born in Wickville, O., March 11, 1845, and was 75 years of age. There survive him a son, Arno Crossan of Salem, a daughter Mrs. Alice D. Iking of Yakima, Wash., and five grandchildren; Mrs. Gertrude Shearer of Chehalis, Wash., and Greta, Norma, Russell and Merle Crossan of Salem; two brothers, James Crossan of Freeport, O., and George Crossan of Yampa, Colo., and one sister, Mrs. Alice Stringer of New Athens,O. The funeral will be at 3:30 this afternoon, under the direction of the Elks, at Righdon's funeral parlors. Interment will be made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Elks are requested and all old soldiers are asked to attend the funeral.
