OBITUARY: AN EARLY DEATH.
Mrs. Mary N. Cunningham Succumbs After Brief Period of Suffering -- A Noble Young Life Is Cut Off in the Prime by the Grim Reaper, and Her Untimely Death Will be Sorely Grieved -- The Funeral Will be Announced Later -- Mrs. Mary N. Cunningham, wife of Allen A. Cunningham, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Matthews of this city, succumbed of a serious illness at her home, No. 375 Commercial street, at 9:30 oclock last evening, aged 32 years, one month and ten days.
Deceased was born in Mason, Effingham county, Illinois, on February 12, 1872, and was married to Mr. Allen A. Cunningham at Pullman, Washington, on May 16, 1893, and one child, a daughter, Gertrude, and the husband is all that remain of the immediate family to mourn her extremely sad and untimely demise, while in the prime of life and the pink of health only a few days previous to the illness which proved fatal to a life that gave forth much promise in this world of sorrow, joys and suffering. She is also survived by the distracted father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. G. G. Brown and Mrs. H. H. Olinger, and one brother, Ralph R. Mathews, all of this city. She was a popular and active member of Chadwick Chapter No. 37, Order of Eastern Star, and also of Queen Hive No. 5, Ladies of the Maccabees, both lodges of this city.
Deceased was possessed of a truly noble and lovable disposition and was very popular in the circles of society in which she was accustomed to move and her death will be deeply mourned by her hundreds of friends, outside of the bereaved ones of the family circle. The funeral arrangements have not been fully decided upon as yet but will be announced in the Statesman later. The husband of the deceased is an efficient employee of the Ladd & Bush bank, occupying the position of paying teller, while the parents are among the earliest settlers of this country and prominent in social circles.
