DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
DAVIS At his home, 241 High street, Salem, Monday, August 19, 1895, Edward Davis, aged 79 years, 8 months and 5 days. Mr. Davis was a native of Lewis county, Virginia, and was born December 14, 1815. He has lived in Oregon about four years and owned a farm a few miles west in Polk. He was a man of large frame and robust makeup, but has not been in wonted health since last autumn when he sustained a heavy fall in the barn and injured himself in the hip. During the past ten days he failed fast, his mind also becoming uncertain. Sunday forenoon he eluded the family vigilance and walked two blocks from the house before he was overtaken and led home. During the night he seemed to rest well, but yesterday morning at 10:15 he passed away peacefully without a struggle while a neighbor was sitting by his bedside fanning him. Mr. Davis left a wife and daughter living here – the latter, Miss Metta Davis, a teacher in the Salem public schools. There are five other children, three in Wisconsin, one in Minnesota and one in California. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for the past fifty years. He will be buried in Rural cemetery, the funeral to be held tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 10:15. Rev. G. W. Grannis will officiate.
