OBITUARY:
AN OLD CITIZEN DEAD.
R. M. Forsythe Passes Away After a Lingering Illness.
He Was an Employe (sic) at the Capital Lumber Mill for Many Years.
R. M. Forsythe, one of Salem's well-known citizens, aged 63 years, passed from this life at 2 o'clock yesterday at his residence on the southwest corner of Court and Front streets.
Mr. Forsythe was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, on the 23d day of March 1833. In 1854, while a resident of Guernsey county, that state, he was united in wedlock to Annie Sherrard and to them were born four children, namely: J. M., Mary J., Wm. and R. H., all but the latter being present at the sad ending yesterday.
Mr. Forsythe was a member of the 159th Ohio regiment and during the late war rendered efficient service for the preservation of the union. His occupation was that of an engineer, and shortly after arriving in Salem, in 1876, he secured a position with the Capital Lumbering Co., where he worked constantly until about five months ago when he was stricken with locomotor ataxia, and was compelled to forego all employment and remain at home. He was an honored member of Central lodge, No. 18, Knights of Pythias.
The funeral will be held at his late residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The services will be conducted by Rev. J. P. Farmer, under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias.
