OBITUARY: Death of Mrs. Gaines--It is with deep regret that we announce the death of the estimable lady of Gov. Gaines. The injuries she received by the accident of the 10th ist. terminated her existence Thursday morning. Her remains were interred at the Clatsop Plains cemetery on the following day. The particulars of the casualty, as we have been able to gather them, are as follows: Mrs. Gaines, accompanied by her husband, was riding from Tanzy Point to the Plains. On the way they met their son who, with a wagon and oxen, was coming to meet them and convey them to his house. While talking, the horse ridden by Mrs. Gaines backed between the team and the wagon, startling the oxen, and so frightening the horse as to cause him to throw Mrs. G. In falling she received a severe wound upon the temples which caused her death. The horse ridden by her was a perfectly gentle one. Oregon Statesman, August, 19, 1851, 2:2
