OBITUARY: 
At his home three miles north of Salem, on Sunday, May 12th, 1889, at 8 o’clock, p.m., Abel Goulding, aged 78 years. The deceased has been a resident of Oregon about four years, coming here from Michigan and settling near Stayton, where he lived until about a year ago, he purchased the home where he died. He was sick only a week, being hale and hearty up to that time. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and belonged to Santiam lodge while at Stayton. He leaves a young wife and two small children, besides a married son who lives near his place. The funeral will take place this afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic lodges here, and interment in the Odd Fellows’ cemetery.
