Oregon Statesman 9 May 1886 3:3

Mrs. J. W. Harritt, who died May 7th, 1886, was born February 23d, 1847, in Niagara county, New York, moved with her parents to the state of Wisconsin, in 1852, from thence to Nebraska, in 1856, and from Nebraska to Oregon in 1862. She was married to J. W. Harritt, of Polk county, Oregon, in 1869, who now mourns the loss of a dear companion.
Mrs. Harritt was the oldest child and only daughter of T. H. and Margaret McIntire. She was a kind and affectionate child, a devoted wife, and noble mother; an obliging neighbor, a friend to all, and in every way a most worthy woman.
She was a member of the United Brethren church, which she joined in 1867; and her high Christian character was visible in her daily life. She bore her long suffering with great fortitude, complaining not of her fatal affliction that was hourly bringing her death’s portal. She was not afraid to die; but greatly regretted to be thus early taken from her dear husband, and children - three in number - two girls and one boy, aged respectively 11, 9, and 4 years.
All that medical skill, love, and affection could do, was done for her relief. It availed nothing, and she sank quietly to sleep, surrounded by the dearest ones of earth. The tears shed as loving hands tenderly laid her away in the cold bosom of mother earth, told but too plainly of stricken hearts.
