Jan 1846 in England, is enumerated with his wife of 30 years, Eliza R., age 48, mother of 10 children 6 of whom are living at the time of the census, b. Mar 1852 in New York, along with Flora B., age 16, b. Apr 1884 in South Dakota, Grove, age 11, b. Apr 1889 in South Dakota, Norma, age 8, b. May 1892 in South Dakota, and Mary J., age 3, b. Jul 1896 in Oregon.

Salem, Oregon (2 miles S of Salem) 1 Aug 1909 at the age of 63 y's 6 m's and 12 d's, name of father William Hemsley (b. England), maiden name of mother Sophia Bridges (b. England), occupation - farmer, interment 2 Aug 1909 at IOOF, undertaker - A. M. Clough, informant Mrs. Grover Hemsley of Salem, Oregon.

OBITUARY: 

GROVE HEMSELY SR. PASSES AWAY.
AGED VETERAN DIES SUDDENLY AT FAMILY HOME SOUTH OF SALEM, SUNDAY.
Grove Hemsley, Sr., died suddenly at his home three miles south of Salem, at 2 a. m., Sunday, August 1, 1909.
He was born in Madestone, England, January 19, 1859, settling at Dryden, Thompkins county, New York, where he was married to Miss Eliza Brokaw on the 12th day of March, 1870. He served in the war of the rebellion in company K of the 120th New York Volunteers. He moved to South Dakota in 1872, where he lived until 1893, when he moved with his family to Oregon, where he has lived on a farm near Salem until his death.
Besides a wife, he leaves five daughters and one son to mourn his death, Mrs. Ed Valette, Allma Nebraska; Mrs. J. F. Blanchard, Madras, Or.; Mrs. F. H. Jory, Miss Norma Hemsley, Miss Josephine Hemsley, all of Salem, Oregon. Four children, two boys and two girls having preceded him to the grave.
The funeral was held Monday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Fields, of Leslie M. E. church. Interment was made in I. O. O. F. cemetery under the auspices of the G. A. R.
