Oregon Statesman 9 May 1875 3:3 OBITUARY -- Died in Salem, Oregon, May 8th, 1875, Eugene Hemry, aged 3 years, 3 months and 20 days. Although the measure of his life was but three short summers, yet he had grown into the hearts of the household, and his death has caused a vacancy that can never be filled. Always with his father and mother and near relatives will linger the memory of his bright face, lisping voice and gentle winning ways; but ever united with that memory will be pain for his loss. The little feet have crossed the threshold for the last time, and the hearts that loved him are sad and desolate. When from a community a strong man is taken his loss is deeply deplored, but how much more is a little child missed and mourned in the family circle. No words of wisdom are treasured up by the people as are the innocent prattles of a departed dear one, by those who are left to mourn. Still there is consolation for even so severe an affliction for He who said, Suffer little children to come unto me, has, we know, called this little one to his bosom and given him a place with the lambs of the upper fold. M. Oregon Statesman 14 May 1875 3:2
