DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
At the family residence, on Court street, in Salem, Oregon, June 9, 1892, at 2:30 p.m., Mrs. Frances E. Hodgkin, aged 40 years. Mrs. Hodgkin was the daughter of Hon. Rice Dunbar, one of the earliest of the pioneers of Oregon. She was a sister of Hon. W. R. Dunbar and Judge R. O. Dunbar, of Goldendale, Washington, of Mrs. Kirk Ward, of Seattle, of O. W. Dunbar, of Astoria, and Mrs. Eliza Reynolds, of San Francisco.
She was born in Marion county, Oregon at the old family homestead in the Waldo hills on the 5th day of July 1852, and, with the exception of a few years’ residence in California and in the city of Portland, her whole life was spent almost within the shadow of the place of her birth. She was married in this city to Hon. Frank E. Hodgkin on the 2d day of September 1874.
In the death of Mrs. Hodgkin, wife of Hon. Frank E. Hodgkin, assistant state treasurer, which occurred yesterday at her home on Court street, this community loses a member of far more than ordinary qualities of mind and heart. She was born in this county on the 5th of July 1852 of a sterling pioneer stock and was married in Salem on the 2nd of September 1874.
Almost her entire life was spent in this city and its vicinity. Her friends were numbered in almost every household of this community and expressions of appreciation of her womanly qualities and profound sorrow at her death are universal. She was for many years a member of the Episcopal church and was active and conspicuous not only in the work of the church but in deeds of benevolence and charity wherever there was a call for a helping hand.
Her funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o’clock today at the Episcopal church. Rev. Wm. Lund officiating and her remains were interred in the Odd Fellows Rural cemetery.
