OBITUARY:
SERVED PUBLIC FAITHFULLY.
John M. Howell, Whose Funeral Occurs Today Was Once Letter Carrier at Capitol.
John M. Howell, whose funeral will occur from the family home on South Twelfth street at 2 o'clock this afternoon, was a well known Salem resident, having for several years been mail carrier for the state house, where he made the acquaintance of men of prominence from various parts of the state, as well as Salem residents, many of whom were heard to express deep regret upon learning of his death. He made a brave fight against the malady, heart trouble, to which he succumbed on Friday. While his heath had been failing rapidly, the end was unexpected, as he had only returned from an outing at the coast and seemed in somewhat better health than usual. He leaves a wife and three children, besides his aged parents both of whom are seriously ill. Mr. Howells was a native of Bloomingdale, Ohio, January 29, 1855, and with his parents removed to Oregon when but twelve years of age. Interment will be made at the I. O. O. F. cemetery, where the services will be conducted by Rev. F. E. Dell.
