OBITUARY:
IDDINGS IS KILLED.
Former Salem Man Meets Death in Auto Accident.
Funeral Will Be Held Wednesday in Salem.
Automobile Turns Over Several Times.
Elmer Iddings of Boise, Idaho, a former Salem resident and at one time an employee of the Salem State bank, now the United States National bank, died Sunday morning at Boise, from injuries received in an auto accident near Placerville, about forty miles from Boise. The remains will be brought to Salem, today and the interment will take place in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Funeral services will take place at Lehman and Clough's chapel at 2 p. m., Wednesday. Earl Iddings, a brother of the deceased who lives in South Salem, will have charge of the funeral arrangements.
Has Sad Ending.
Popular in business and social circles, Mr. Iddings' death was a great shock to friends here. Affiliated with a large lumber concern in Boise, he was making good in a finacial way and was to have been married to Miss Florence Bush of Boise within a few weeks, according to a report.
Brakes Fail.
Accompanied by his fiancé, Miss Avis Sheridan, Mrs. Lindsey, a sister of Mrs. Bush, and Robert Pugh. of the Pugh-Jenkins Furniture company of Boise, Mr. Iddings was enjoying a week end trip to Placerville. When well into the mountains on a steep road the car skidded. The emergency brakes would not work and the car and its occupants went over the grade. The car turned over four times before reaching the bottom, it is said. Mr. Iddings was caught under the machine and crushed. Mrs. Lindsey sustained a broken leg, and other members of the party were badly bruised. A passing automobile was hailed and Mr. Iddings was rushed to Boise for medical attention but all attempts to save his life proved futile.
Parents Woodburn People.
Mr. Iddings was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Iddings of Woodburn, who formerly lived in this city on the corner of Court and Eighteenth street. They are well known here. The deceased was employed as a bookkeeper at the Salem State bank from 1905 to 1906. He was a member of the Elks lodge of Boise.
