DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
At his home in this city, corner of Mill and Broadway streests, North Salem, at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 1900, J. C. Jackson, aged 65 years.
The deceased was the well-known colored man of North Salem. Though not a native of Oregon, Mr. Jackson was for many years a resident of this state. He lived in Salem for about ten years, during a part of which he was employed as cook at the Indian Training school at Chemawa and the State Reform School. He went to Baker City last fall where he worked for several months as cook.
In February he was taken sick and after spending five weeks in the Baker City hospital was sent back to his family in this city, reaching Salem about four weeks ago. Salem physicians were unable to satisfactorily diagnose his case and no one was able to ascertain the true nature of his ailment.
Besides a son and daughter, residing in Portland, the deceased is survived by a wife and three children, the latter aged, two, four and nine years, in this city. Funeral services will be conducted at the house at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon by Rev. John Parsons of the First Methodist church. Burial will be had in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
