OBITUARY: 

LEWIS E. JUDSON Is DEAD at 95 -- Lewis E. Judson, Salem native and descendant of Methodist missionaries to Oregon, died Tuesday night in a Salem hospital at the age of 95. He was a retired dairy farmer and longtime Republican precinct committeeman and authority on Oregon history. LEWIS JUDSON, 95, DIES; Was Mid-Valley Historian Lewis Edward Judson, descendant of Salem pioneers and authority on the history of the area, died Tuesday night in a Salem hospital. His 95th birthday was last Wednesday. He had been in ill health for some time but entered the hospital just Monday. Judson was born in Salem and lived all his life at 1000 Judson St. SE. He had a dairy farm there for 30 years, retiring in 1953. 
He was a longtime member of Marion County Republican Central Committee, a precinct committeeman more than 50 years, member of Leslie Methodist Church since 1896, past president of Marion County Historical Society and member of Salem Rose Society, Masonic Order 50, Men's Garden Club and Jersey Cattle Club. His service starting in 1912 on the Central Committee included terms as chairman and state and congressional committeeman. His activity in the church included president of the board of trustees, song leader, treasurer, president of Salem District Epworth League. He was a favorite speaker on Oregon history in Salem schools and author of many historical articles and a book "Reflections of Oregon." 
In his early life he was a teamster. He farmed on the side, starting at the age of 16, growing wheat on rented land in the 2600 block Summer Street SE. He attended Willamette University and served 16 years in the National Guard. 
He was the son of Robert Thomas and Sarah Alice McBee Judson; grandson of Lewis Hubbell Judson, who came to the Oregon Methodist Mission at Salem in 1840; and great-nephew of David Leslie who came to the mission in 1837. 
He leaves a widow, Edith C.; sons Lewis Judson Jr. of Salem and Philip Judson of Aurora; daughter, Mrs. Mathias Crouser of Aumsville; brother Leonard Judson and sister Alice French, both of Salem; six grandsons. Arrangements are pending at Virgil T. Golden mortuary.
