1880 CENSUS - John Knight, age 31, occupation blacksmith, b. Missouri, is enumerated with wife Inga [Angie], age 24, b. in Pennsylvania, along with children Edna, age 5, b. Oregon, and Benjamin W., age 3, b. Oregon.
1930 OR CENSUS - John Knight, age 81, occupation postal office bailiff, b. Missouri, is enumerated with wife Angie, age 74, b. Pennsylvania, along with daughter Edna A., age 54, single, occupation seamstress, b. Oregon.

Deeds, Vol. 53, pg 172, Chemeketa Lodge #1- IOOF to John Knight, Aug 11, 1888 / Dec. 29, 1892; John Knight, from Shelby County in Missouri, served as Marion County Sheriff from 1894 to 1898. He moved to Oregon in 1866 from Washington state and was the half brother of William Knight, who was Sheriff of Clackamas County from 1884 to 1888. A blacksmith by trade, Knight served on the Salem City Council in 1882. A History of the Oregon Sheriffs 1841-1991, by Linda McCarthy.

Commercial) at the age of 83 y's 11 m's 28 d's, name of father Joe Knight, maiden name of mother Katherine Bauer, interment 25 Jan IOOF, undertaker Rigdon & Son, informant Mrs. H. O. Taylor of Salem.
OBITUARY: 
At the residence 1905 South Commercial street, January 23, John Knight, 84. Leaves widow, Mrs. John Knight of Salem, daughter, Mrs. H. O. Taylor of Salem; son, Claud S. Knight of The Dalles; sister, Mrs. Mary Burchan of Cottage Grove. He was the first exalted ruler of the Salem Elks and an honorary life member; also former crier in the United States courts. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. under direction of W. T. Rigdon & Son.

John Knight, Oregon pioneer, passed away at the residence, 1905 South Commercial street, Monday, January 23, at the age of 84. He was born in Bethel, Mo., coming to Oregon with his parents in 1863. He is survived by his widow, Angeline, and the following children: Mrs. H. O. Taylor and Claude S. Knight of The Dalles. A sister, Mrs. Mary Burchan of Cottage Grove, also survives. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, at 2:30 p.m., from the Rigdon mortuary, with Dr. W. C. Kantner officiating. Interment I.O.O.F. cemetery. Services under auspices of Salem lodge No. 336 B.P.O.E., of which the deceased was the first exalted ruler.
