IOOF - Miss Agnes Kurtz, age 32, born in Nebraska, died in Salem of typhoid fever, was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Kurtz.
1880 CENSUS - Agnes Kurtz, age 8, b. Iowa, is enumerated with Fred'k, age 36, b. Wurtemburg, occupation farmer, and Caroline, age 34, b. Iowa, along with siblings John, age 15, George, age 12, Glendon, age 10, Andrew, age 6, all born in Iowa, and Elijah, age 4, and Johanna, age 6 m's, both born in Nebraska.

Miss Agnes Kurtz goes to Roseburg today to assist her brother, Albert, in drying fruit, he having a contract for doing such work in that vicinity. She is a sister of Fred Kurtz, the fruit drier man residing north of Salem.

Agnes Kurtz, One of Salem's Bright Young Christians has Passed Away 
After a protracted illness of several months, Miss Agnes Kurtz died Sunday evening at 9 o'clock. She recently suffered from a very severe attack of typhoid fever, and has since been troubled by an internal abscess, resulting in her death. 
Miss Agnes Kurtz was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Kurtz, 190 Trade street, in this city, and was born at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, January 27, 1871, coming to Salem with her parents in 1889 and locating in Salem, where she has since made her home. 
Hers was one of the Bright young lives of the Capital City, and she will be greatly missed by a large circle of devoted friends. She was a member of the First M. E. Church in this city, and was one of the most active and efficient worker in that church. She was especially interested in Sunday school work, and it is there that her loss will be the most keenly felt. 
Besides a host of friends to mourn her untimely demise, she leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Kurtz, one sister, Hannah Kurtz, and five brothers, Clinton G., Elizah A., and Fred A., of Salem; H. A., of Oakland, Cal., and John M. of Logan, Neb. Both of the brothers have been notified and are expected to arrive in the city in time to attend the funeral services, which are to be held from the First M. E. church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. John Parsons, and burial will be in the Odd Fellows' cemetery. Oregon Statesman 21 Jul 1903 1:2
