OBITUARY:
LOVELAND DIES IN AUTO WRECK
Farmer of Liberty District is Victim of Accident Near Amity.
What was intended for an outing on the Tillamook beaches turned into a tragedy Tuesday when W. E. Loveland, 60, a farmer living in the Liberty district three miles south of Salem, was killed in an automobile accident near Amity, in Yamhill county, and his daughter, Mrs. O. G. Coffey, rushed back to a Salem hospital suffering from a fractured collarbone, several broken ribs and possible internal injuries. Kenneth, 10, who was riding in his grandfather’s car, escaped without injury.
Mr. Loveland lost control of his machine as it passed over a bridge on the highway near the outskirts of Amity. One wheel struck the railing and in an effort to right the machine Mr. Loveland drove it through the railing on the other side of the bridge. The car dropped about 20 feet, pinning the occupants beneath the wreck.
The car was one of two carrying a party to the beaches. In the automobile ahead were Mrs. W. E. Loveland, her daughter, Mrs. Frank Shepard and Eugene Loveland, all residents of Liberty. The accident occurred about 6:30 o’clock Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held from the Webb undertaking parlors at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, with interment in the Odd Fellows’ cemetery.
