OBITUARY:
MRS. LOVELL DIES
Wife of Secretary of Tax Commission Taken Away.
Born in Salem, She Was Well Known -- Long Time Friends Watched Constantly at Bedside of Friend.
Mrs. Linnie B. Lovell, wife of Frank K. Lovell, secretary of the state tax commission, passed away yesterday at 3 p.m. at the family home 533 Center street, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Lovell was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Stutesman. She was born in this city, January 14, 1887, and was educated in the public schools of Salem. She entered the employ of the Ladd & Bush bank January 1, 1897, and remained with that institution until her marriage with Mr. Lovell, April 15, 1903.
Mrs. Lovell leaves her husband, F. K. Lovell, and two brothers, Clarence L. Stutesman and George Merle Stutesman of this city.  Loving friends were ever present to cheer her through the long days of her illness. During the past weeks, Mrs. R. E. OL. Steiner, Mrs. Milton Meyers and Mrs. Oswald West were constantly at her side. The friendship which existed between Mrs. Lovell and Mrs. West was formed in childhood. They were classmates and chums all through their school days and the closest friends all through life.
The broken health of Mrs. Lovell was largely the result of long years of most tender devotion to her invalid mother, who passed away some three years. Ago.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. from the chapel of Rigdon and Richardson. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.

MRS. LOVELL BURIED.
Multitudes of friends gathered Sunday at the funeral of the late Mrs. Linnie B. Lovell, wife of Frank K. Lovell, which was held from the chapel of Rigdon & Richardson, Rev. Robert S. Gill officiating. Beautiful floral offerings completely covered the casket and filled every available space in the room. The services were simple, music even being omitted upon request of the bereaved relatives. Interment was in the family lot at the Odd Fellows' cemetery. The pallbearers were ex-Governor Oswald West, Dr. R. E. Lee Steiner, Milton Meyers, Ben W. Olcott, John J. Roberts and Dr. H. H. Olinger.

MRS. F. K. LOVELL   A FEW WORDS BY AN OLD FRIEND
Upon our first visit to a lighthouse we are surprised at the simplicity of the lamp which gives forth the light.  We soon learn, however, that it is through the aid of the wonderful lens that surrounds the lamp that its light penetrates the darkness and directs the storm-tossed mariner to a port of safety.  So it is in everyday affairs.   We are struck with the simplicity of some life which seems to give forth a wonderful light and we find that it is by reason of the beautiful character which surrounds it that it is given power to thus shine forth and penetrating dark hours become a beacon of hope and encouragement to those of God’s children who may be storm tossed upon the sea or life.
Such was the life and character of Linnie Lovell.  Reverses came early to threaten happiness.  Affliction followed bringing sorrow and demanding years of grinding self-sacrifice, yet she passed through it all without dropping one word of complaint, without sacrificing a single noble instinct or once quenching her lamp of hope.  Lives like these seems to be of God’s special handiwork and are placed here and there among us that we may see and know the beauties of Christ-like attributes and learn their many lessons.
She was a loving wife and a loyal friend.  He long years of most unselfish devotion to an invalid mother and the little acts of kindness which she constantly extended to others drew to her many, many friends.  To know her was to love her and this fact was evidenced by the friends who came during her illness with words of hope and encouragement and gifts of flowers to brighten her hours.
She has gone from among us but the beauties of her life and character will live ever fresh in the memories of her friends and the lessons they have learned from her life of self-sacrifice and devotion will make them better men and women.
