OBITUARY:
LIFE IS ENDED BY LAUDANUM.
W.B. LUGENBEAL, RECENT ARRIVAL, TAKES OVERDOSE OF DEADLY FLUID.
CORONER CLOUGH IS SATISFIED CASE ONE OF SUICIDE. NO INQUEST TO BE HELD.
W. B. Lugenbeal, 54 years old, a miner, died last night at 8 o'clock from an overdoes of laudanum, which according to Coroner Clough, was taken with suicidal intent.
Lugenbeal lived with his daughter, Mrs. Hammond, 804 South Twentieth street, and had been in Salem but a short time. On Tuesday evening he purchased the laudanum at a local drug store. He had not been in ill health nor had he made any complaint of not feeling well, and no cause is assigned for his having taken the poison. Dr. Miles was called yesterday morning when members of the family found Lugenbeal in bed and suffering. The physician worked over him, but efforts to revive him proved fruitless. A search revealed the empty bottle, which had contained laudanum, and Coroner Clough was notified. The coroner said he was satisfied the man had taken his life, but said that he would hold no inquest. Arrangements for the funeral will be made later.
