PROBATE: Willard Matthes, 33, petitioned the county court yesterday to be appointed administrator of the estate of his mother, Mrs. Augusta Matthes, who after being a resident of Marion county more than 40 years, died at her home December 15, 1919. Mrs. Matthes left an estate consisting of real property to the probable value of $20,000 and personal property of about $1000. The immediate kin and heirs are George Matthes 53, son, residing at Long Beach, Calif.; Edward A. Matthes, 49, son, route 9, Salem; John C. Matthes, 45, route 9, Salem; Lewis C. Matthes, 44, Salem; James L. Matthes, 41, Kent, Ore.; Frank B. Matthes, 36, son, Gervais, and Willard Matthes, son, Salem. She left no will.

OBITUARY: 

Is Called by Death at Home.
Mrs. Augusta Matthes died at 10:15 o’clock Friday night at the family home six miles north of Salem of the Pacific highway. She was 75 years of age. Mrs. Matthes had lived on the farm where she died for 25 years. Her husband survives her. The definite funeral arrangements will be made later. The body is at the Webb and Clough establishment.

DEATH OF MRS. MATTHES REGRETTED BY COMMUNITY
QUINABY, Or., Dec. 30--The death of Mrs. Augusta Matthes, December 16 [sic], removes from this community one of its most respected residents. Her funeral was held Monday, December 21; from the Webb & Clough chapel at Salem and interment was beside that of her husband, John [unreadable] daughters, Lena Matthes and Addiline Matthes Garrison, all of whom are buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Mrs. Matthes was born in Germany near the Oeder river, November 27, 1844, her maiden name being Augusta Pilger. In 1863 she came to America and in 1867 was married to Mr. Matthes who died in 1896. In 1877 they came to Marion county, settling near Sublimity, and 23 years ago removing to the present homesite at Lake Labish. The following children survive: George, Edward, John, Lewis, Lawrence, Franklyn, Willard and Marie, (Mrs. William Mumper, all of whom were present at the funeral except George Matthes, who was detained at Long Beach, Cal., by the illness of his wife.
