FURTHER PARTICULARS
Last evening’s express train from below brought with it all that is mortal of the once bright youth, John Mead, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Mead of this city, who on Monday last met his death near Oregon City under the following sad circumstances: himself and a companion were out hunting in the woods, and Johnny had just clambered over a huge log when his companion requested him to take his gun while he climbed over likewise. The rifle was an "Under-Striker," the hammer being beneath the barrel, and as it was drawn across the log the hammer was raised and flying back with a spring exploded the cap and sent the ball whizzing through his brain, killing him instantly, it entering midway between the eyes. The Coroner was called, an inquest held, and a verdict returned in accordance with the facts. The funeral will take place to-day at 2 o’clock p.m. from the residence of his parents in this city. Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
