OBITUARY: DIED AT COLFAX.
Max. M. Miller, a Salem Boy, Succumbed to Typhoid Fever Yesterday
Will Be Buried Here.
Max M. Miller, son of Mrs. Amelia E. Miller, of South Salem, died yesterday mourning at Colfax, Washington, from typhoid fever, after a brief illness. While it was know in this city that Max was ill with the fever, it was not known that his illness has assumed a serious phase, hence the reception by members of the family, of a telegram yesterday about noon, announcing his death, was a great shock. Max was always a strong, healthy boy, possessing a rugged constitution and his numerous Salem acquaintances grieve to learn of his premature death. He was about 21 years of age. Max was born an raised in Salem, where he attended the public schools and Willamette University, completing the normal course in the later institution. In August, 1898, he went to Colfax, where he accepted a responsible position in the National bank of that city, a position he very ably and satisfactorily filled.
He was very popular among a wide circle of Salem acquaintances, who recognized in him a manly and honorable fellow. He was always jovial and possessed a sunny disposition, whose cheering influence was felt and appreciated in every gather in which Max was numbered. Mrs. Amelia Miller, mother of the deceased, left Salem about 10 days ago for Sumpter, Eastern Oregon, being called there by the serious illness of another son, Roy, who is a sufferer from heart failure. A subsequent message, received after she reached Sumpter, announced that Max's illness had become serious, and she hastened to Colfax, reaching the bedside of her son several hours before his death.
In her hour of bereavement Mrs. Miller, has the heartfelt sympathy of the people of the Capital City. The remains will probably be brought to Salem for interment, although the funeral arrangements had not been completed last night.
