OBITUARY:
LYING VERY LOW.
Attorney W. H. Holmes returned last evening from Portland whither he went to visit his brother, Dr. H. R. Holmes. Early this morning Mr. Holmes received a telegram from the metropolis announcing his brother to be laying very low. Attorney Holmes accompanied by his daughter, Miss Claire, went to Portland via the Salem local this morning. Dr. Holmes Tuesday underwent an operation for intestinal trouble, but it is feared his constitution is not sufficiently strong to withstand the shock. A later report says Dr. Holmes died at his Portland home at 10:10 o’clock this morning. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed. It is thought the remains will be given interment in Rural cemetery since the only son of the doctor is buried in the Odd Fellows cemetery here.
