OSBH DC (Marion County 1907) #2734 - Wm J. Minto, male, married, d. 12 Jan 1907 at the age of 51 years, 6 months, 11 days, at Salem Hospital in Salem, Oregon (Salem Hospital), name of father Jno. Minto (b. England), maiden name of mother Mrs. Minto (b. England), interment 13 Jan 1907 at IOOF, undertaker A. M. Clough.
OBITUARY:
At the Salem hospital on Saturday, January 12, 1907, William Jasper Minto, aged 51 years, 8 months and 15 days. Mr. Minto was born April 27, 1855, at the old Minto homestead, five miles south of Salem, and lived here practically all his life. He was married in October, 1876, to Miss Minnie Byrne, who died in a few years. They had one son, Frank, who is now in Fairbanks, Alaska. March 18, 1883, he was married to Miss Ella Powell, who, with one daughter, Buena, survives him. They were both at his bedside during his last hours. He was a son of Hon. and Mrs. John Minto, beloved and respected pioneers. His mother preceded him to the eternal shore on September 6, 1904, but he leaves the aged father, three brothers, John W., postmaster of Portland, Harry P., deputy sheriff, here, and Douglas C., a prominent dairy and hop man, and one sister, Mrs. Robert C. Halley, to mourn his demise.
Many a tear and sigh of deep sorrow will be brought fourth by the death of "Jap" Minto, for he had numerous warm friends who were tied to him in affectionate loyalty because of the many noble qualities of his nature. He was generous, kind, honest and true in all his relations. Deception was foreign to him.. Faithfulness to his friends and to his pledges was a religion with him.. During the years of his good health he was full of energy and public spirit, took a deep interest in public affairs and rarely sought public preferment for himself, though always helping others. There are few living who will speak unkindly of Jasper Minto, and if there are any, it is because they did not know him rightly. May his eternity be full of peace.
