OBITUARY:
DREADED DISEASE TAKES F. J. MOORE.
Popular Business Man Falls Victim to Gangrene After Auto Collision.
Frank J. Moore, the oldest son of Judge F. A. Moore, of the state supreme court, died at the Salem hospital yesterday at 2:30 p.m. from gangrene adduced by a wound sustained in a collision with an automobile two weeks ago today. Mr. Moore had been very low for several days, and as early as Wednesday his life was despaired of. The disease attacked his left leg with great virulence and nothing seemingly could be done to stop the ravages of the malady. The accident which has terminated fatally occurred at the corner of Court and Winter streets. Mr. Moore was on his motorcycle which he rode continuously and in a bad blocking of traffic was struck by an automobile owned, it is said, by someone in the city of Silverton. Thrown to the pavement, he was badly, though not dangerously cut about the head and left leg. From the latter wound the gangrene developed.
Mr. Moore had lived in Salem for many years and was widely and most favorably known in this vicinity. For the past ten years he had successfully conducted a good business in bicycles and various sporting goods and has earned the trust and esteem of all with whom he has dealt.
Frank Moore had acquired quite a reputation as a sportsman, as he was formerly one of the premier bicycle riders when those races were popular and was also noted as a great hunter and good shot with a gun. Mr, Moore leaves behind him a widow and four children, the oldest of whom is 9 years of age. Burial will take place Sunday. Chapman Scrapbook, pg. 199. [Sept. 27, 1912 written on the clipping]
