OBITUARY:
In Salem, on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1890, John W. Rogers.
Deceased was born near Toronto, Canada West, Feb. 23d, 1818, and was therefore nearly 72 years of age. He was married to Miss Ann R. Turner in 1839, in Southern Illinois. She having died in 1861, since then he has lived the most of the time with his children. He came to Oregon in 1882, and lived with his son Henry Rogers, who then resided at Drain, Douglas county. When Henry removed to Salem, about three years ago, he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Hammell, who were living at Grant's Pass. Mrs. Hammell is his youngest daughter. Since Mr. Hammell removed to Salem he has been stopping with friends in Drain, until the 21st of November last, when he came to Salem and has been at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Hammell.
He had been gradually failing ever since he came here, but had only been confined to the bed a few days, and at 3 o'clock, Jan 22nd, he very suddenly and quietly passed away without a struggle. He leaves four daughters and two sons, Henry Rogers and Mrs. Hammell here, David Rogers, in Georga, and three married daughters in Iowa. He had three sons in the Union army, and one Samuel, died in the service. He was always a loyal and good citizen, and his loss is deeply mourned. Funeral at the residence of Mrs. Hammell this (Friday) afternoon at 2, conducted by Rev. Rollins.

DEATH of a GOOF MAN.
Henry Rogers, carpenter at Chemawa Indian training school, was called to the city yesterday morning by the dangerous illness of his aged father, who was at the home of Mr. Hammil near the depot. Upon arriving here he found the old gentleman much worse than he had anticipated--so low indeed that death came to his relief in the afternoon. The deceased was about 75 years of age and a man who is well known about Salem. The news of his death will bring sadness to many a heart.
