OBITUARY: OLD TIME STAGE DRIVER PASSES
William Sargeant, a resident of Salem in the early eighties, one of the first mail carriers and stage drivers between Salem and Perrydale, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orin Edwards at Willamina.
Sargeant was past eighty years old and well known among the older residents of Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties. At one time he and his wife conducted a boarding home in Salem where the present city hall now stands. The only surviving relative is Mrs. Edwards (Nora Sargeant) his daughter. Funeral services will be held at the Newberg Friends’ church at ten o’clock Saturday morning and interment will take place about one o’clock at the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Salem.
