[excerpted form article about the wreck of the steamer, Columbia]
..."Mrs. Jeanette Benson, whose name does not appear in any list of survivors, was on her way north to spend her vacation with her mother, Mrs. Almira Jakes, living on South Liberty street, Salem, Or. Mrs. Benson had been in San Francisco for two years, and was employed as a fitter by Koenig & Collins of Van Ness avenue. She lived at 1603 Laguna street, and although of a quiet and retiring disposition, had made a small circle of warm friends. Her visit to her mother had been planned for months, and she had been happy during the last few weeks as the time came nearer. Mrs. Benson was a widow, but was about 30 years of age, only.
