A Handsome Monument, The Oregonian of the 29th inst., says:
A very handsome monument has just been finished by Mr. Wm. Young of this city, which is to designate the spot where repose the mortal remains of the beloved wife of Mr. Robert Grant, of The Dalles. Mrs. Grant died in Portland, more than a year since, and the body was conveyed to Salem, and laid to rest in the Odd Fellows' cemetery near that city. The monument is of Italian marble, about 9 feet high, of an octagon shape at the top. On the front of the spire is carved in relief; a wreath of laurel and palm leaves, under which is carved the following inscription; "Mellie E. Elgin, wife of Robert Grant, died Dec. 26, 1875 aged 25 years, 1 month and 4 days." The momument will be placed in position in the cemetery in a few days.
