OBITUARY:
MATHENY - At the family residence, near Gaston, Washington county, Oregon, Wednesday, May 29, 1901, at 9 a. m. Mrs. Eva Matheny, wife of Samuel Matheny, aged 44 years and 10 months. Deceased was a daughter of Mrs. Helen C. McClane and the late J. B. McClane, of this city, a native of Salem. She leaves a husband, five children, a mother, five brothers, and one sister to mourn her demise. J. B. McClane, of this city, is a brother. The funeral will be held from the residence of J. H. McCormick, in North Salem, at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be had in the Rural cemetery.

Oregon Pioneer of 1856
FOREST GROVE, May 30. Mrs. Samuel Matheny, an Oregon Pioneer, died at her home last night, near Gaston, where she had resided 11 years, aged nearly 45 years. She was born in Maryland, and had resided in Oregon since 1856. Decease was a daughter of the late J. B. McClane, of Salem, who crossed the plains to Oregon with Dr. Marcus Whitman in 1836, and returned to Maryland.
Mrs. Matheny leaves a husband and the following children: Mrs. Joseph Breslor and Mrs. W. Stone, of Salem; Mrs. M. ]???] of Seattle; Miss Katherine Matheny, of Portland; and the Misses Marea, D[?], Stella, and Samuel Matheny, of Salem.
The funeral sermon will be preached at Salem tomorrow by Rev. David Lynch, at Gaston. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at that place
