OBITUARY: 
Arthur Verne Myers, 89, a longtime Salem school administrator for who Myers Elementary School is named, died Thursday. 
A native of Red Wing, Minn., he came to Salem as a small child. He attended Grant Elementary School and graduated for Independence High School He started teaching at Perrydale at age 19. In 1928, he earned a teaching degree from Oregon Normal School, now Western Oregon State College. In My 1929, he married Ramona Moore. He became a social studies teacher at Parrish Junior High School in 1938, the same year he received a master's degree in education from Willamette University. During the next 32 years he served as an elementary school principal, the director of outlying schools and an assistant superintendent. Myers Elementary School opened in 1973, three years after he retired. He and his wife, Ramona, brought discarded textbooks to children in Mexico. He volunteered as a teacher at the Oregon State Penitentiary. 
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salem and the Salem Downtown Rotary Club. He was a sponsor for bringing Laotian families in Salem. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Rosemary Carlsen of Lake Oswego and Elizabeth Callahan of Salem; sons, Ray A. of Salem and Kent C. of Lake Oswego; sister, Lenore Winslow of Lake Oswego; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the church in Salem. Arrangements are by Barrick mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Salem Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 993, Salem, Ore. 97308.
