OBITUARY: Sad Death At Silverton.
The Young Wife of Dr. F. M. Brooks Expires Suddenly.
At 11 o'clock yesterday the wires from Silverton bore to this city the distressing intelligence of the sudden death, from heart failure, of Mrs. Agnes Borthwick Brooks, wife of Dr. Frank M. Brooks of that place, and formerly of Salem.
The shock was absolutely without premonition or sign, as the deceased lady's health was normally excellent and had been for years, and she lingered but a short half hour after the attack. Doctor Brooks was out of town on his morning round of professional visits and the messenger, dispatched for him instantly, succeeded in appraising him of the unhappy event in time for him to arrive at the bedside just as his young wife breathed her last.
Twelve days prior, Mrs. Brooks became the mother of a lovely girl child, and under the tender and skillful care of her husband was fast regaining her habitual good health, having sat up on Sunday, and yesterday morning also.
Mrs. Brooks was the second daughter of Rev. John Gordon, D. D., and wife of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in which city her father is the honored pastor of the Second baptist church.
She was born in Chicago on February 1, 1871, and was consequently 27 years, 1 month and 11 days old.
She became the wife of Dr. Frank M. Brooks on January 21, 1891, at the city of Portland, and for seven, happy years, they have known the blessedness of a perfect union in which the crowning joy has been the coming of two little ones, Irwin Gordon Brooks, aged 5 years, and the babe, Agnes Carrie Brooks, made motherless on the twelfth day of existence.
It is almost needless to say that hosts of friends throughout this county, in Portland, and abroad, have only the deepest and tenderest sympathy for the stricken young husband, and his little ones, bereft, on the one had of a cherished and devoted copanionshipr, and on the other, of a mother's unfailing solicitude and loving care.
Notice of the funeral will be given later, in these columns, unless it shall be ascertained that the remains are to be sent East for sepulture in the family vault.
