OBITUARY:
A DAY OF MOURNING.
The messenger of Death visited this city on Sunday last, and as the clock announced the hour of 10:25 p.m., the grim messenger laid his hand upon the form of Miss Eva Mae Carpenter, a well-known young woman of Salem.
Eva Mae Carpenter was a much-be-loved woman - a daughter of Mrs. H. Carpenter, and a sister of Mrs. A.E. Strang, both of Salem. Her death occurred at the residence of the latter on Asylum avenue, at 10:25 p.m., on Sunday, May 14, 1899; she leaves another sister, Mrs. G. A. Brodie, of Portland, and Mrs. S.R. Jessup, of Salem, is her aunt. Her birthplace was Fort Yamhill, (in Yamhill county) having first saw the light of day on February 11, 1864. Her untimely passing from this life was caused by pleuro-pneumonia, superinduced by a severe cold, which she contracted on her way home from Los Angeles during the first week of the current month, she having been in that southern city for several months. The greater portion of her life was spent in Salem, where she was educated and had endeared to herself many friends and acquaintances, who were greatly shocked to learn of her death.
The funeral will be conducted at the Strang residence by Ronald McKillop, of the First Baptist church at 2 o’clock tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon and interment will be in the family lot in Rural cemetery, where repose the remains of her father, Dr. H. Carpenter, whose demise occurred several years ago.
