OBITUARY:
At home in East Salem, Monday, August 17, 1891, Hugh M. McNary, aged 54 years.
Hugh M. McNary was born in Morgan county, Ill., May 15, 1827, and removed with his father's family to Oregon in 1845, settling in Polk county, where he lived until 1859, when he removed to the eastern part of the state and remained there and in Eastern Washington until 1876. In the latter year he returned to the Willamette valley, and since 1878 has had his home in Salem.
He was married to Catherine Frizzell April 6, 1854, by whom he had four sons and three daughters. The wife and all the children survive him.
The deceased belonged to the earliest class of the Oregon pioneers now living, having spent forty years of an active life within the state, and prior to December 24th, last, was in the enjoyment of robust health, and with the prospect of many years of life before him, but on that date he received a spinal injury from the effects of which he never recovered; this, aggravated by an attack of la grippe soon after, brought several months of bad health and finally death. The funeral will be held at 3 p. m. today from the family residence, corner Capitol and Marion streets. All friends of the family are invited to be present.
